Chapter 10

As the sound of gunfire echoed, Lale pressed herself to the ground, her heart pounding as if it would burst out of her chest. As Rüzgar tugged her deeper into the forest, all she could hear was the rustling of the trees and her own panicked breaths. *Why did he leave me? He promised to protect me!*

"Rüzgar, where are we going? What's happening?" she whispered, her voice trembling.

Rüzgar, breathless, said, "Stay calm, Lale. We need to get to a safe place. This place is compromised." His eyes were constantly moving in the dark forest, on high alert. "I have to leave you here."

Lale couldn't believe what she was hearing. "What? You're going to leave me here? We were just attacked, Rüzgar! What am I supposed to do here all alone?"

Rüzgar stopped, his face barely visible in the shadows. The complexity in his eyes sent a chill down Lale's spine. "I know, but I have no choice. I have to do this to protect you. Demir…" He took a deep breath, as if the words he wanted to say were stuck in his throat. "Demir has dark dealings. This attack might be related to him."

Lale frowned. "Demir? But he's…" *He's my protector. How could he put me in danger?* "Don't be ridiculous, Rüzgar. Demir is supposed to protect us. He should be keeping us safe."

Rüzgar smiled bitterly. "You have a lot to learn, Lale. You'll realize that Demir is not who he seems to be." He cupped Lale's cheek, stroking it with his thumb. Even in that chaotic environment, the touch made Lale's insides flutter. "I promise I'll come back as soon as possible. But for now, I have to go."

Rüzgar hugged Lale tightly, pressing his lips to her forehead. "Don't move from here. Don't trust anyone. Got it?"

Lale nodded, her eyes filled with tears. The thought of Rüzgar leaving her alone in the forest was unbearable. But the determination on Rüzgar's face showed her that there was no other option. A few seconds later, Rüzgar disappeared into the darkness.

With her heart in her throat, Lale crouched down, her legs trembling. She looked around, every shadow seeming like a threat. *What am I going to do now? Why was Rüzgar so worried? Does Demir have dark dealings?* Was she actually a part of a game, while thinking she was under protection?

As her mind was filled with questions, she remembered the phone in her pocket. Maybe she could reach the authorities outside. She took out the phone with trembling hands, but there was no signal. *Of course, there wouldn't be. Why does everything have to go so wrong?*

Looking around in despair, she noticed something on the ground. It was a small piece of leather that Rüzgar might have dropped. She bent down and picked it up, examining it carefully. There was an intricate symbol on the leather, something she had never seen before. She didn't know what the symbol meant, but it gave her a bad feeling.

It seemed like hours had passed. The silence of the forest was broken by occasional owl sounds. Lale huddled at the base of a tree, drawing her knees to her chest. She was shivering from the cold, but her fear was greater. Rüzgar still hadn't returned, and Lale was about to go crazy from loneliness and uncertainty.

*What is Rüzgar hiding? What does he know about Demir? And what is that symbol?*

Suddenly, she heard a rustling sound from afar. Her heart started beating fast. *Did Rüzgar come back? Or…*

She hid behind the tree, holding her breath. As the rustling got closer, a silhouette appeared. Lale flinched in horror when she realized that the silhouette wasn't Rüzgar. It was a larger, more menacing figure.

"Lale?" a voice said, the voice was icy. "Where are you? You don't have to hide. I've come…"

The owner of the voice emerged from the trees. His face was visible in the shadows, but Lale recognized him. She couldn't believe her eyes.

"Demir?" she whispered, her voice trembling. "You... What are you doing here?"

Demir smiled bitterly. "I came to save you, Lale. What did you think?"

Lale's instincts were firing alarms. There was something strange about Demir's behavior. The expression in his eyes was more like a hunter than a protector.

"Where is Rüzgar?" Lale asked, her voice now more determined. "He was supposed to protect me."

Demir shrugged. "Rüzgar? Ah, him… I have some business with him. But don't worry, Lale. You're safe now. You're with me."

Demir took a step towards Lale. Lale stepped back. The fear inside her had become unbearable. As Demir approached her, Lale remembered Rüzgar's words: *You'll realize that Demir is not who he seems to be.*

The darkness in Demir's eyes had frozen Lale's insides. "Don't come near me," Lale said, her voice trembling but firm.

Demir laughed. "Why are you afraid, Lale? I'm your protector."

Lale held the small piece of leather in her pocket tightly. Maybe this symbol would reveal Demir's true face. Maybe the secret Rüzgar was hiding would save Lale's life.

Demir took another step towards Lale. "Come with me, Lale. I'll keep you safe."

Lale shouted with a last hope. "Rüzgar! Help!"

But there was only silence in the forest. And Demir's devilish laugh…
