Amora, John and Charlie turned their heads to the door when they heard the voice. Two blue eyes shone as bright as diamonds in the dark night. Ashley stepped inside, slowly walking towards Amora. She stopped right in front of her and looked directly into her eyes without any fear or hesitation.
“Get out of my house,” she said calmly. Amora tilted her head to the right, smirking like a fox. “You’ve got guts,” she said. Then she turned her head to John and Charlie. “But you should be careful with your words, unless you want them dead.” Ashley took a fast breath, angrily. “You should leave,” she said to her parents. “Go hide.” Charlie and John listened to their daughter and left them alone in the house. The door closed, slamming sharply.
The two kept looking directly into each other’s eyes for a few seconds. Then the first attack came from Amora. She threw a strong punch at Ashley’s face. It made a small scar, but it healed in seconds. Amora didn’t like it and immediately got ready to attack again. Ashley couldn’t block it and took a few steps back. “Shit!” she muttered. “You might have earned some skills,” Amora said as she walked toward Ashley, “but you are no match for me.” She grabbed Ashley’s chin and looked into her eyes with a mix of pity and joy.“Just like Monica.”
In the blink of an eye, Ashley’s eyes became brighter than ever. A strong telekinetic power coming from Ashley threw Amora against the wall, breaking it. Photographs and paintings fell to the ground. Windows and doors slammed open. Even people in the street felt the wind coming from the house. Some of them tried to look inside, but Ashley immediately closed everything.
At that moment, Amora was finally getting back on her feet after a minute of dizziness. “Hah…” Amora took a few breaths. “…That’s all? A little noise and broken furniture?” she smirked. “A little noise? I’m sure I saw a woman getting thrown,” Ashley said teasingly. Amora’s face hardened. She started walking, stopped next to Ashley, and whispered into her ear: “That’s just the start.” She left the house after saying that.
After a moment, Ashley went outside to find Charlie and John. She found them in a corner, waiting in silence for everything to end. Their eyes met. For a moment, silence was the only thing between them. Finally, Ashley spoke first. “Are you hurt?” she asked as she stepped closer to them. “We’re okay,” John said. His voice was calm but tired. “Yes… we were just afraid,” Charlie continued softly.
“What did she ask you?” Ashley asked. John answered after giving Charlie an anxious look. “She…she asked where she could find you. We said we didn’t know.” “And then you came,” John continued after taking a breath. Ashley stepped closer to them and placed her hands on their cheeks, caressing them with a mix of love and longing. At first, Charlie and John shivered from her ice-cold hands, but after a moment, they hugged her tightly, as if they might never see her again.
“I left the house because I didn’t want you to get into trouble because of me…” Ashley said softly. She gently pulled away and took a small step back. “…Seems like it didn’t work.” A heavy silence followed. “Then stay here with us,” Charlie said tearfully. Ashley slowly shook her head. “I can’t.” A tear rolled down both Charlie’s and John’s cheeks. “But I will always keep an eye on you two,” Ashley said, looking into their eyes one by one. “I’ll make sure they won’t bother you again.”
For a moment, no one spoke. Charlie’s voice broke the silence. “Will we see you again?”Ashley hesitated. Just for a second. “Yes,” she said quietly. Then she turned her back and walked away. She disappeared into the bright light of the moon. Her thoughts drifted to Monica’s diary. “…Maybe I can find some answers there…”
