The heavy silence of the hotel room amplified the erratic beating of my heart. After Arda left, I knew I was no longer the hunter; I had become the prey. Suddenly, a heavy knock echoed on my door.
I jumped, my eyes frantically scanning the room for a place to hide. "Who's there?" I called out, my voice betraying my terror.
"Housekeeping," a muffled, mechanical voice replied.
I didn't believe it for a second. It was Arda's men; they had come for me. "Come back later," I said hurriedly, grabbing a heavy brass lamp from the nightstand. As the door handle turned and the door creaked open, I swung the lamp with all my might. A loud thud and a curse followed, and I threw myself into the corridor.
I ran for my life, the sound of my heels tearing through the silence. I could hear the heavy, angry footsteps of the men chasing me. I reached the elevator, pressing the button frantically. Just as a large hand reached through the closing doors, the metal slid shut, sealing me in safety for the moment.
I rushed out of the hotel, taking the first taxi I could find. "To the nearest bus station," I told the driver.
Miles away, in his glass-walled penthouse, Arda was furious. He ran his hands through his hair, roaring at his men. "How could you let her escape?" he shouted. "Review the security cameras. Find out where she went. Bring her to me, dead or alive!".
As I sat in the cold bus station, nausea washed over me. I was pregnant with his child, a tiny, innocent life I had to protect at all costs. My phone rang, displaying an unknown number.
"Lara Demir?" a formal male voice asked. "I am Lawyer Can Demirci. Your sister Elif left a secret letter that was never delivered. I am waiting for you at my office to hand it over".
My heart raced. A letter from Elif? This could change everything. I immediately changed my plans, unaware that this letter was a meticulously crafted trap.
Following the instructions, I arrived at an abandoned, desolate warehouse far outside the city. Pushing open the rusted iron door, I stepped into the suffocating darkness. In the center of the room, illuminated by a sliver of moonlight, lay a white envelope.
With trembling hands, I opened it. Inside was a photograph of my sister—her face bruised, her eyes wide with unimaginable terror. The letter attached read: "Lara, Arda Yalçın is a monster. He conducts illegal experiments, and I was one of them. He will do anything to silence me. Take my revenge".
Tears streamed down my face. He was a killer. And I was carrying his baby.
"So you finally learned the truth, Lara," a chilling voice echoed behind me.
I turned in horror. Arda emerged from the pitch-black shadows, a ruthless smile on his perfect face. "I warned you," he whispered. "You shouldn't have messed with me". But the massive, silent shadow looming right behind him signaled that the true nightmare had only just begun.
