The sound of Lara's high heels echoing on the polished floor seemed to match the frantic rhythm of her heart. As they descended deeper into the sterile corridors of the perfume factory, the atmosphere grew increasingly claustrophobic. The heavy blend of floral notes and sharp chemicals made her stomach churn. After all, she was carrying the greatest secret of her life: she was pregnant with Arda's child.
"Where are we going?" she asked, her voice trembling more than usual.
Arda glanced over his shoulder. "I'm going to show you the heart of the company," he said, a cynical smile playing on his lips. "Perhaps then, your thoughts about me might change a little".
There is nothing to change, Lara thought bitterly. You are my sister's killer. And I will be your punishment.
Finally, Arda stopped in front of a heavy door protected by complex security codes. He scanned his fingerprint, and as the heavy metal door slowly swung open, Lara was confronted with the most cruel and heart-wrenching sight she had ever witnessed.
Experimental animals... Rabbits with missing fur and monkeys with eyes gleaming with pure terror were locked in cages. Some writhed in pain, bearing deep, festering wounds on their small bodies.
Lara's stomach turned completely upside down. "This place..." she whispered, her voice choking with horror and rage. "This place must be hell".
Arda remained terrifyingly calm. "The cost of innovation," he said, shrugging his broad shoulders. "One must make certain sacrifices for the sake of beauty".
In a blind rage, Lara turned to Arda and spat directly in his face with all the strength she could muster. "You are a disgusting creature!" she screamed. "You killed my sister, and now you do this? You aren't human!".
As Arda wiped his face, his eyes turned as cold as ice. "Elif's death was an accident, Lara. And these animals... They are merely tools. Our goal is much bigger".
"Your goal?" Lara laughed hysterically, tears streaming down her cheeks. "Your only goal is money and power! You care about nothing else!".
"You're wrong," Arda said, taking a slow, predatory step closer. "I care about you".
Lara flinched and stepped back. The intensity in Arda's eyes terrified her, yet it drew her in simultaneously. This man was an enigma; she hated him to her core, yet she felt an irresistible, toxic desire for him.
"Don't touch me," she pleaded, her voice shaking. But Arda ignored her, grabbing her waist and pulling her flush against his chest. The heat of his skin was intoxicating, making her breath catch in her throat.
"I hate you," she whispered, though it sounded like a desperate confession.
"I know," Arda murmured, his lips trailing dangerously down her neck. "But hate isn't the only thing you feel for me, is it?". Lara was on the verge of losing her mind; his touch was destroying all her logic. He was her poison, and she was ready to taste it.
The spell was shattered by the sudden ringing of Arda's phone. It was the factory's head of security. "Sir, there is an emergency. A fire has broken out in one of the laboratories".
Arda's expression hardened instantly. "I'm coming," he said, hanging up and turning back to Lara. "Wait here," he commanded. "And do not go anywhere".
As Arda hurried away, Lara looked around in absolute terror. Minutes felt like hours as the smell of smoke began to infiltrate the air. Suddenly, the door burst open. It wasn't Arda. A stranger with a sinister smile stepped into the room.
But before the stranger could act, the fire alarms blared deafeningly. The flames licked the corridors, and the sharp smoke burned Lara's throat. In the chaos, Arda reappeared through the smoke like a dark savior.
"I came to save you, Lara," he said, his voice chillingly calm amidst the inferno. He grabbed her arm, pulling her through the flames and smoke until they finally burst out of the factory into the cool night air.
As she gasped for clean air, her phone rang. It was Murat, her sister's ex-boyfriend. "Lara, where are you? I heard about the fire!" he yelled in a panic.
Before Lara could answer, Arda snatched the phone from her hand and ended the call. He pocketed the device, looking at her with a pitch-black expression. "You are no longer safe, Lara," he said, his voice freezing her blood. "And Murat... No one is safe anymore".
