"No," I lied smoothly. "Everything is fine".
Arda took a step closer, the heavy scent of his perfume filling my senses. "Don't lie, Lara. I always know the truth". He reached out and gently touched my cheek. "Tell me, what happened?".
I couldn't allow him to touch me. I pulled away. "I'm just tired, Arda. I want to be alone for a while".
"I cannot let you be alone," he said, his voice hardening. "You are mine". His eyes darkened ominously. "And I do not share what is mine".
His words sent a chill down my spine. I was beginning to see Arda's true face. He was not merely a CEO; he was a ruthless manipulator. And I was nothing but a pawn in his twisted game.
"Arda, please," I begged. "Give me some time".
"Time?" He let out a cynical laugh. "We don't have time, Lara. Every second is precious. And I intend to make the absolute most of every second I spend with you".
He pulled me flush against his chest and crashed his lips onto mine. I did not kiss him back. My stomach churned with revulsion.
"What's wrong?" he demanded as he pulled away. "Don't you desire me?".
"I don't," I whispered fiercely. "I hate you".
A flash of genuine surprise appeared on his face for a split second, only to be quickly consumed by rage. "Hate?" he hissed. "You hate me?". His eyes burned like hellfire. "You will pay for this, Lara. You will pay dearly".
In that moment, a crystalline resolve settled over me. No matter what happened, I was going to stop Arda. For my sister, for the baby in my womb, and for myself. I was done hiding. I was going to fight.
"You know, don't you?" I asked, successfully masking the tremor in my voice. "I read Selin's letter. I know everything".
The expression on Arda's face turned completely to stone. A heavy silence hung in the air before he spoke in a voice as cold as a glacier. "So, you know everything". His eyes gleamed with a dangerous, lethal light. "Then the game begins now, Lara".
